Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our wedding
We appreciate everyone's travelling quite far - it's practically a wedding abroad! So to make the most of our time together we'd like to invite everyone for drinks on the Friday night, 29th May, at the Deli Restaurant Carbis Bay Hotel (right underneath the Ocean Venue by the beach).
Then on Sunday morning we're planning to brave the Cornish sea and go for an early-ish morning dip (it's practically bathwater!). If you don't want to brave the water (probably sensible) feel free to come and laugh at those of us who are!
If you're planning on staying longer, let us know as we'd love to join you in exploring this beautiful county.
The venue is at a hotel, so handily there are a few different options and facilities including a spa. There is a slight reduced rate if you contact them directly to book via the following ways:
- Direct line - 01736 805779
- Email - events@carbisbayhotel.co.uk
We appreciate it's a spendier option and there's lots of great alternatives in either Carbis Bay village or St. Ives (about 10 min car journey away).
There's also a Premier Inn in Penzance, which is about a 15 min car journey.
We'd strongly recommend travelling the day before the wedding to Cornwall. Traffic (especially down Tractor alley near Newquay) can be really bad. There's also only one trainline for the whole county and it often faces delays. So best to save yourself any potential stress and travel the day before and after the wedding.
That said, the Cornish Riviera from Paddington to Penzance is beautiful - especially through Dawlish if you wanted to take a more scenic route. You'll need to change at St.Erth to get the branch line to Carbis Bay/ St. Ives.
If you want to be bougie and get a plane, there is an airport at Newquay but just to flag, the transport from Newquay is not great as you'll have to travel on train from Newquay> Truro change to Truro> St. Erth then change again to get to either Carbis Bay or St. Ives (on the same line). If you're considering this option it might be easier to hire a car.
Please be warned that public transport (buses and trains) in Cornwall is not great. Bus timetables don't really exist - they turn up as and when they feel like it… There's also only one train line for the entire county so if something happens the whole area is cut off...

The venue is by the sea so we're not expecting full regalia but ultimately it is a wedding so Nick's been banned from the flip flops and we'd ask for long trousers rather than shorts (think smart casual).
We're also planning to get some pictures with everyone on the sand so would suggest comfortable shoes and definitely avoid stilettos. Bringing a pair of sandals to change into would be a good idea.
If you're getting the train to Carbis Bay please note it's a VERY steep hill from the station to the venue so again would steer clear of very high shoes.
If you're joining us on Friday night, it'll be casual drinks but feel free to dress up a little if, like Merrion, you want an excuse to!
More generally, the weather is very localised and can change quickly so best to be prepared. But then, as the old saying goes - it never rains in Cornwall and the Cornish never lie!
Enjoy the full Cornish experience by unplugging and living in the moment! (This may also have something to do with the fact the Wi-Fi (service) at the venue is not the best - we're in Cornwall and it's by the sea…)
As neither Bride or Groom are on social media we ask that no pictures of us are posted online. Everyone we care about will be there with us, or if you're unable to make it we'll share pictures of our day with you afterwards in-person when it's more special.
Thank you in advance for understanding our wishes x
As we are big kids ourselves, little ones are invited to join us but be warned they may have to keep Merrion entertained…
Unless your invite stated you're welcome to bring a Plus One, unfortunately we don't currently have the space for additional guests. Should anything change we'll let you know nearer the time.
Firstly, we appreciate the time you're taking to travel and celebrate with us. As corny as it might be, your presence is really the best present! So please know we're not expecting anything.
But if gift giving is your love language, we'd appreciate any contributions to making more memories together over physical gifts.
For those of you who ARE more traditional, we have popped some ideas together (you know how much we love a list!): Wedding Gift List
